REVIEW: AsterSpring’s Dermalogica acne scar healing facial

REVIEW: AsterSpring’s Dermalogica Anti Scar Facial (acne scar healing facial)
Walking into JEM (Jurong East Mall) for the first time is rather refreshing. With most of the popular retail brands under its tenancy, it’s as if I’ve walked into one of the malls along Orchard Road. Now all it takes for one living in the West to get to popular retail stores like Top Shop and Warehouse takes less than half an hour, instead of an hour. JEM offers more than retail therapy. Located within the walls of JEM is AsterSpring: Origin of Beauty, part of a regional beauty group that also brings into Singapore established skincare brand, Dermalogica – a skincare brand I always go back to for my acne troubles.

TRIAL EXPERIENCE
The interior of the skin accessing machine
I trialed DERMALOGICA ANTI SCAR FACIAL, $290 (85 mins) blemish repair treatment. Dionne, who attended to me, was very detailed in her explanation. After accessing my skin with AsterSpring’s special skin check machine which uses ultraviolet rays to detect skin conditions such as hydration level and hyperpigmentation, Dionne concluded that this anti-scar treatment would address my skin needs better than the anti-acne treatment I was scheduled to experience as I have obvious open pores, dull skin, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, acne scars and fine lines.

The spa has a clean and neat changing room with lockers for storage of valuables. Now one doesn’t need to worry where to keep one’s valuables and bag when one is having facial. The room is clean, neat and cool, not stuffy at all with dimmable lights. Everything in the room is white or chrome from the cabinets to facial machines used for a sanitary clinical feel. For my facial, Dionne customised it to include the use of lavender essential oils for the massage, instead of a nourishing cream as it has relaxing properties which soothes my skin as well as my sinusitis issues. No extractions with needles were done during this session to avoid stinging sensations over spots where extractions where done when she uses the machine on my skin later on (although I’d much prefer that having extractions as I usually have pimples that are embedded in the skin that remain there for months).

The Lymphatic Drainage massage session was without any uncomfortable sensations. All Dionne needed to do is select the option for treating acne scars and start moving the probe over my skin systematically. The mask done at the end of the session included the use of gauze placed over the face before anti-ageing and hydrating oat mixture is applied over my face. The session ended with a Dermalogica moisturiser and tinted primer applied over my face to protect my skin from environmental aggressors when I leave the building and a cup of soothing warm cup of date and longan tea to quench my thirst.

Why DERMALOGICA ANTI SCAR FACIAL is beneficial:
1. Increases the cell regeneration process
2. Lightens and brightens uneven skin tone
3. Reduces fine lines and post-acne scars
4. Refines and smoothens skin texture
5. Promotes healthier and smoother skin complexion

This is best for those with the following skin problems:
1. Post-acne scars
2. Skin with opened pores and no active acne
3. Dull and rough skin texture
4. Blemish marks

How it works:
Massaging your way to beauty
The treatment uses a machine that offers Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM) treatment with a new generation mechanical wave treatment of between 3 MHz to 10 MHz applied to skin between 100 to 1,000 times every second. These frequency changes and pressure variations create a pulsating and massaging effect, also known as Local Dynamic Micromassage. The frequency is then better absorbed into the upper epidermis and dermis, which makes it great for cell renewal and collagen stimulation. LDM possesses three effect levels of advantages―Thermic, Mechanic and Biochemical―Thermic promotes blood circulation and activates metabolism. Mechanic increases membrane permeability tightens connective tissue and improves skin elasticity. Biochemical gently alters the pH level of skin and collagen cross-links.

LDM can be used for effective anti-aging treatments including skin rejuvenation, skin tightening and wrinkle reduction; acne treatment and scar reduction through the stimulation and redistribution of collagen.

Ideal Facial schedule to address the issues effectively:
One to two weekly or bi-weekly corrective treatments before spreading out to a treatment in once in three weeks or once a month for maintenance. See results in six continuous treatments

Current Promotion: 20 per cent off per three treatments package taken up. If you are able schedule your treatments during off peak hours, ask them if it is still available as it may offer treatments valued at $300 for package price of less than $200. Package price varies depending on monthly marketing activities, that was what I was told when I visited the beauty salon.

VERDICT:
My skin was more hydrated and open pores less obvious by the end of the session. My uneven skin tone however was less obvious when I’m not wearing foundation or makeup base. I guess as I’ve been having it for years, perhaps a few more skin whitening sessions would help to even up the skin tone better. The bump which appeared after a pimple was removed without creating a wound, subsided the next day. No antibacterial zapper was used over my acne during the facial, except for the application of Dermalogica antibacterial pimple cream. The embedded pimple which was on my neck was left alone to develop and hopefully surface. Well it’s still there after one week.

Interior of a treatment room

SHOP OPENING AND REVEW Texture by Xpect @ Siglap salon's latest outlet at Siglap for those residing in the East

SHOP OPENING Xpect Salon's latest outlet in Siglap

DECOR

I was invited to for a colour trial at XPect Group's latest outlet at Siglap - Texture by Xpect @ Siglap. The spacious salon has a minimalist decor, with a flooring in the minimalist flooring that is most current trend in Europe, and the salon furnished with furniture in black and a chandelier hung over the waiting area to give the salon a touch of sophistication. To ensure that clients can rest their eyes and enjoy the relaxing rinse and massage and perhaps have a snooze, while having their hair shampooed and conditioned, the rinse room is deliberately dimly lit, with walls painted black. This makes the contrast of the backyard with walls painted in red even more vivid. And for one who prefers brightly lit rooms, peering out of the window that overlooks the backyard is welcoming. I also appreciate the contrast of the green leafy plants against the stark red walls.

REVIEW

I find the staff well versed in his colouring skills and knowledge, and very careful when handling the hair dye. Not a drop of the hair colour splattered on the floor nor smeared on my forehead. For this session, the colour technician gave me a colour change as he felt that my greys were growing out and that the fading hair colouring I had done in Seoul was causing my hair to appear unhealthy after three months, and was too light to cover my greys effectively. As I preferred a lighter hair shade to tone down the severity of my appearance, he creatively created a blend which would lighten a little in the next few washes to achieve the intensity I was looking for, but not fade longer than the last colouring. And it's true that my hair colour was still healthy for more than two months.

VERDICT

The skills of staff at Xpect Salon is commendable from the shampoo to hair colouring skills, to simple blow out. Although the black walls in the rinse room too stark for my liking, it has certainly achieved it goal in providing a conducive environment for me to catch forty winks. It is also thoughtful for the owner to keep the backyard open for smokers whether it's staff or customers' husbands who need a puff while waiting.

REVIEW Pine Garden Avocado Gula Melaka MilkShake cake

Avocado Gula Melaka MilkShake Cake

We stopped by the famous Pine Garden and spotted the Avocado Gula Melaka MilkShake cake which was offered as an anti-ageing Mother's Day specialty last May. We couldn't resist getting a slice for ourselves.

Here's our verdict
If  you love avocado milkshake served with a dash of cocoa and also can't resist gula melaka desserts then you will like this. This cake has the distinct taste of both. I feel that the generous spread of creamy avocado cream between layers of gula melaka flavoured sponge cake blended make a perfect marriage. My husband was a little unsure about the raw taste of avocado at first, but was soon asking for more of the cake after a few mouthful.

REVIEW Kerastase Elixir Ultime Does it leave hair glossier and hair colour more intense?

Achieving Glossier hair and richer hair colour made easy with the help of nourishing oils

KÉRASTASE Elixir Ultime range comprising a cleansing oil shampoo and beautifying oil masque, gently cleanses and treats dry hair with four types of hair repairing and nourishing oils.

How does it work?
The nourishing oils in the range include pracaxi oil, argan oil, maize oil and camellia oil, which strengthen damaged hair, give shine to coloured hair and protect it from external aggressions. One thing that will set every woman’s mind at rest is that the nourishing oil mask will not straighten curls or fade colour, but will smooth out frizz and enhance shine, in both curls and straight hair, however, the rebounded or straightened hair have an enhanced sleek and smooth finish.

INGREDIENTS
Pracaxi Oil Emollient contents and active antioxidants impart shine to hair as it nourishes and conditions.
Argan Oil This rare oil is prized for its regenerative properties, which restores vibrancy and strength to hair.
Maize Oil Rich vitamins A, E and omega 6 content protect and enhance hair shine and suppleness.
Camellia Oil This fragrant oil is the most luxurious oil rich in vitamin F, fatty acids, omega 3 and 6. It smoothens hair fibre and therefore also leaves hair kink free.

Kérastase Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oil Masque, $69
Other ingredients in this rich mask include:
Moisturising serum 5% & Lipidic Compounds 10%
Nourish and soften hair and without weighing it down.

TIP DIY Home Hair Spa
No time to visit the hair salon for a pampering hair spa? You can still get hair smoother and glossier at home. Simply shampoo with Elixir Ultime Cleansing Oil Shampoo to remove excess scalp oil and dirt. Then nourish hair with a hair mask.
Blend a nourishing mask by mixing a dose of Elixir Ultime Grands Crus oil and the original Elixir Ultime with Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oil Masque. Remove excess water from hair after shampoo and smooth this nourishing blend onto hair. Work into the length of your hair (from midlength down especially if you have oily scalp), then bun up hair and wrap with a towel. In 20 minutes, remove towel and massage mask into hair before emulsifying with some water and massaging into hair again before washing off and towel dry as usual.
Continue with your regular hair care and dry hair. Your hair colour will be richer than glossier than before. If all hte blending is too tedious for you, use Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oil Masque straight from the tub like I did. Check out the visuals of my hair after my home hair spa with Kérastase Elixir Ultime range.

REVIEW/CAMBODIA The longest shampoo I've ever had

The longest hair wash I've ever had - 1 hour

I was told about the hair shampoo and rinsing that one gets a hair salon in Phnom Penh just before I embarked on my trip to this foreign land - it will be shampooed and rinsed four times. Curious, I made a shampoo session one of my must-dos. And what better time than having a nice shampoo and blowout just before a dinner party?

Due to the short time frame we had, we ventured to a salon close to where we stayed. Before I was seated in front of a mirror, I was asked to pick my desired shampoo, just like how some Vietnamese hair salons do it at some hair salons in Ho Chi Minh. My choice was Pantene Anti-Fall. The other brands available included Sunsilk and L’Oreal Paris and most of them were for straight hair.

My hair was given a long shampoo and rinsed (four times)
by a very junior shampoo girl who spoke only Khmer from 4.20pm-5.20pm. Amazingly loooong! The longest I could sit in a chair for a shampoo. After the long shampoo, the shampoo girl asked pointing to another client having her hair crimped straight, if I wanted to have my hair styled straight. Alarm bells sounded in my head when I heard her. I replied her “no, curly please,” and it seems like she didn’t understand me and we waited for a long while before a senior stylist came by to asked if I would like to style my hair straight…. I repeated what I said earlier to his junior staff and gestured with my hands how the stylists in Singapore would twirl and blow dry my hair. He then spoke to his colleagues in Khmer as he raised the roller brush he had found. The other junior stylists ran around looking for another similar brush as he started styling and blow-drying my hair. Midway through I thought I was beginning to have hair styled like the Ceilia Mae of Monster Inc. (pictured below) as tight curls hung at the ends of my hair :p

Celia Mae of Monster Inc
Soon, the styling was done with my massive long tresses. My wash and styling came up to USD 6.50 (S$8.20).

VERDICT:  Although the process was a little discomforting initially and with my back drenched from the shampoo and rinsing, I believe it’s an isolated case. The curls loosened by the next morning and was more natural.

Undaunted, perhaps I should check out a hair salon in town at my next visit.

REVIEW: The Scent of a Woman―EAU DE LACOSTE

LACOSTE's latest Feminine Scent To Note
Amy Adams, the icon of Eau de Lacoste with a bottle of the scent in her hands

LACOSTE launched their latest feminine scent, Eau De Lacoste. It refreshes the senses with sparkling fresh notes of white pineapple, mandarin and bergamot and heart notes of white orange flower, jasmine sambac before settling into spicy, powdery sandalwood, vanilla, vetiver and Peru balsam. It is a scent that is described by Antoine Delgrange, Global Marketing Director P&G Prestige as “sophistication in a simple and unpretentious formula”.

Trial:

The team from P&G Prestige Fragrances sent me Lacoste’s latest Eau De Lacoste a couple of months ago and asked me to blog about how I have incorporated it into my daily routine. And here it is:

This powdery floral scent with sparkling top notes is a scent I would usually reserve for more relaxing cooler nights or evening appointments. However, for a change, I wore it every day to firstly challenge myself into accepting more femininely powdery floral scents and secondly to check out responses of people around me.

However interesting things happened.

For one, when I was on my way to the a client’s office, a lady in her twenties followed me so closely when I changed trains that I almost kissed her when I turned around upon boarding the next crowded train. My guess is this lady must like soft floral scents.

My second incident was when I was shopping at a hotel mall. I passed by a Caucasian gentleman twice before arriving at the shop I was looking for. The second time I spotted him, we looked at each other just before I stepped into the shop. Moments after stepping in, I heard someone asking the store owner where he could get a haircut. It’s a strange place to be looking for a haircut, so I took a quick glance out of curiosity and realised that it was that gentleman I bumped into a few times.

From the second incident, perhaps I can conclude that there are men who are so drawn to soft floral scents.

My take on the scent:
On hindsight, I noticed that the scent left me feeling more relaxed and feminine than when I am wearing my usual sparkling fresh floral Marc Jacobs Daisy or Issey Miyake’s L'Eau d'Issey. With the Eau De Lacoste, my stride is not as hurried either.

This scent has certainly added an element of adventure into my life over and above the sweetness of the fragrance notes.

More about Eau De Lacoste

The Icon of Eau De Lacoste

Three times Academy Award nominee Amy Adams is the face of LACOSTE’s latest sensual scent Eau De Lacoste. “Amy has a natural grace and modernity that both women and men admire,” says Delgrange. “She captures the mood of Eau De Lacoste a truly engaging way.”
Amy Adams is best known for her role as Lois Lane in the new Superman movie: Man of Steel 2005 cult movie. She earned her first Academy Award nomination in Junebug, which won a Special Jury Prize. Enchanted gained Adams a Golden Globe nomination and Roles in Doubt and The Fighter won Adams two further Oscar nominations

Says Adams about scents in general: “I often recall someone’s scent long after they’ve left the room. It’s incredible how your senses can be so acute that they’re able to trigger an emotion or memory with just the hint of a specific fragrance.”

The Campaign

Says Delgrange: “The (TV) campaign is simple: exquisite lighting, a clean colour palette, nude background; Amy wears a white cotton shirt. The idea of the glass ball traversing the skin refers directly to the bottle shape but is also an emotional interpretation of the spirit of LACOSTE. Something that is worn close, as evanescent and diaphanous as fragrance so that the sensorial touch, that feeling of a light caress becomes fascinating; the viewer is transfixed by how Amy masters the ball – it is captivating and purely sensual. What could be more beautifully feminine?”

Soundtrack for the TV commercial:

City Girl by the Jezebels, a soaring soundscape of otherworldly rock vocals that plays on the mood of the film.

Click Campaign to view the TV commercial.

Stills campaign

Shot by Vincent Peters, who is known for his cinematic imagery and perfect ‘Hollywood’ lighting, showcases Adams’ innate beauty.

Says Vincent Peters: “I believe that the picture expresses Amy’s particular natural charm. I tried to capture Amy looking natural, rather than a specific pose to achieve a portrait of a woman, who is comfortable with herself and reveals her feelings.”

Amy Adam’s hair and make-up for Eau De Lacoste:

Casual and real with movement in her hair, nearly nude skin to reveal Adam’s freckles and a neutral make-up colour palette.

Amy Adams’ make-up artist Stephen Sollitto quipped: “It’s a question of enhancing what is already there: healthy, fresh skin, lips barely more intense than their natural colour, shades of nude and taupe for the eyes, mascara to gently curve the lashes. It’s not about overplaying anything.”

The Bottle

The specific choice of a round flacon captures Eau De Lacoste. This clever and contemporary translation of the LACOSTE lineage is the work of LACOSTE Design Director Christophe Pillet. Ultimately pure and modern, the perfect glass sphere, graduating in colour from nude to white, is completed by a petit piqué-textured cap. Around the neck of the bottle is a collar of silky cotton thread from which a metal charm dangles, embossed with the crocodile logo.

Says Pillet: “With Eau De Lacoste, the house signatures are so strong: the croc, the cotton that’s used to weave the petit piqué, so it was natural to bring these things together.” But it’s the subtle, more feminine details – the metallic logo executed in a coppery nude mordoré shade screened onto the flacon, the sophistication of the croc charm, the tactile quality of the petit piqué cap, and the perfect rotundity of the bottle - that make it as desirable as any piece of jewellery.

REVIEW The gentlest and most aromatic cleanser for oily/combination, acne prone skin

A Very Gentle Cleanser for Oily/Combination Skin

Coast to Coast Rainforest Pore Purifying Foaming Cleanser with Lilly Pilly & Eucalyptus sulphate-free cleanser

Trial
Cleansing my face and smelling the aroma of soothing essential oils is a very calming and pleasant experience, especially when the haze condition was at an unhealthy level. This gentle, low foaming cleanser left my skin cleansed, calm and comfortable without stripping my dry combination skin of excess oil. I am rather surprised as this cleanser is actually meant for oily/combination skin. The active ingredients in this gentle cleanser are Lilly Pilly, Eucalyptus & Australian Tea Tree.

What’s great about it?
Lilly Pilly: This antioxidant vitamin C-rich ingredient protects skin’s cell structure by preventing damage from free radicals as it also helps skin regenerate and cleanse. Vitamin C and fruit acids promote collagen and elastin production to visibly firm and brighten complexion. Its astringent properties cleanse and refresh skin and improve youthful resilience.

Eucalyptus: Its strong antibacterial, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and cooling properties are best for healing wounds. It has a fresh scent that is both refreshing and invigorating.

Australian Tea Tree: Regulate and repair skin with its potent antiseptic, antibacterial and astringent properties.

Salicylic Acid: Banish acne-causing bacteria, while maintaining skin’s natural moisture balance.

VERDICT:
I double cleanse my skin by removing my makeup with a makeup remover before removing impurities and excess sebum with this sulphate-free cleanser. My dry-combination skin feels clean and very comfortable after cleansing with this light foaming cleanser. In particular, I love the sensory part of using this cleanser as smelling it while massaging the foam on my skin soothes my senses and refreshes me at the same time. It makes me look forward to cleansing my skin even when I arrive home very late and tempted to hit the sack without removing my makeup.

REVIEW:Silk 'N Face FX rejuvenating home gadget

REVIEW: Silk 'N Face FX rejuvenating home gadget

Simply Beauty had the opportunity to do a trial with this cool skin rejuvenating gadget Silk ‘N FaceFx. Here’s what we found.
Silk’N FaceFX
It uses the synergy of heat radiation and optical energy for long term clinical results. The tool uses a combination of 24 LEDs and HFTM technology proven to be clinically effective at improving the appearance of aged and photo-damaged facial skin.

Silk’N FaceFX Technology
It works with dual use of energies. The low optical energy, non-thermal LED may contribute to increased collagen mass by inhibiting its degradation down to the deep dermis. This will be manifested as improved wrinkles and pores size. The optical energy of 635 nm along with the superficial penetration of the heat radiation may heat the epidermis and render the brown spots more fragile. The contact heating may also help in collagen contraction.

How It Works
Gently glide the applicator over desired part of face to be treated for 15 to 20 minutes. You should feel gentle heat coming from the metallic part of the head with LED lights. The efficiency of the results varies from person to person and according to the frequency of use and skin type. Some may see results sooner than others.

Silk’N FaceFX treatment course: During the first month (4 weeks), treatment should be performed 3 times a week for 15-20 minutes per session, after which, use only once a week for maintenance.

Here’s what we found out:
The Trial
Silk N’ FaceFX is lightweight and very easy to use.

When I first started, I would use the rejuvenator on my face night the before, and could see a firmer skin the following day. The skin improvements such as more refined and toned skin were obvious on first few days of use. However after a while, as skin is already firm, it took longer to see greater improvements such as a less obvious double chin and a more defined jaw line, when focussed the usage over my cheeks and jaw line.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: When used over wrinkles on forehead and freckles on cheeks, wrinkles become less obvious after a few sessions, and freckles and uneven skin tone less obvious.
Double chin is not as obvious as before
(from left) Cheek and jaw line after using FaceFx and before starting on FaceFx.
Shadow at the side of my nose is less obvious (See picture on left) after using Silk 'N Face Fx for about two months. NOTE: Difference in skin tone is due to tan acquired from exercising outdoors during the two months, not from using the gadget.

Challenges of Fitting This Tool into Daily Routine

It takes a while to get used to making a smooth glide on my skin with this handheld skin rejuvenator, while creating imaginary circles with it. Initially it was difficult to glide it smoothly over skin. It was after a few attempts over a few days that I managed to succeed in getting a smoother glide. The trick was to wait a couple of minutes for my skin to be less damp after wiping my face dry from a wash. Incorporating Silk 'N FaceFx into my skincare regime took a little of getting used to. It also took me a few attempts to remember not to instinctively reach out for my toner right after cleansing my skin as it needs to be used on clean skin. However, these are easily overcome once I set my mind to it. Also, as my family tries to conserve energy by not charging our gadgets all day, I put the applicator on the charger only when the battery is flat or seem to be very weak. On days when the battery was weaker, all I could manage was a few strokes on my face before the battery conked off. But that didn’t bother me at all. I’d just postpone the session to the next day.

A few doubts Clariancy clarified:
Simply Beauty: Can I use this tool with a serum to improve its absorption?
Clariancy:  Only use FaceFx on dry cleansed skin as using a gel or cream while gliding the FaceFx on it may cause gels or creams to get stuck into the Red L.E.D.s leading to malfunction of the tool. While it helps to increase skin cell renewal and stimulate collagen and elastin production, remember to continue with regular skin exfoliation, which will help to even out skin tone and the bumpiness.

Simply Beauty: I heard some therapists advise that if one doesn't clear the pimples or rough skin with milia seeds before a rejuvenation treatment, skin rejuvenation treatments will not be as effective. So what can I do?
Clariancy: That is true. As such, it is best to exfoliate first before performing aesthetic treatments. If you are using FaceFX, you can consider a home microdermabrasion device to peel the skin first before performing FaceFX treatments. This removes excess keratin on the skin and allows the rays from the Red L.E.Ds to penetrate further and more efficiently into the deeper layers of the skin.

At the clinic setting, we also advise clients to consider peels first before their IPL or laser treatments for better results.

On occasional bumps or single pimple:
Simply Beauty: If I have bumps which sometimes become more pronounced while using the FaceFX, from using a massaging cream that are too rich, what should I do?
Clariancy: Usually FaceFX does not make bumps more pronounced than they already are. If your bump is raised because it is a pimple/acne, the FaceFX can indirectly help because acne is most sensitive to Heat and LED Blue Light. The technology behind FaceFX is 41 degrees Celsius heat and LED Red Light. The heat from the FaceFX can help to treat acne.

Simply Beauty: Hydration after FaceFX is a must. What kind of skin hydrator or moisturiser to use?
Clariancy: A hydrating moisturiser is a definite because after all kinds of treatments, our skin tends to be drier, that's why we have to top it up with more hydration. Thus, using hydrating serums that contains Hyaluronic Acid will be good. An anti-aging moisturiser is alright if it is suitable for your skin type. Basically moisturiser comes in 2 forms, water based or oil based. Usually the more mature and dry skin type will go for oil ones and the acne, oily ones will go for water based. Also, do note the humid weather in Singapore, usually our skin tends to produce oil after awhile, so it is advisable to go for a more water based moisturiser. I'll say that it's important to apply serums before your moisturiser as the molecules in moisturiser are bigger and harder to get absorbed into our skin.

Simply Beauty: Can this be used every day? What precautions to take? Does it cause skin to become dry? I find that my already dry skin gets drier after using this tool.
Clariancy: It can be used every day. Having said that, using the Sill 'N FaceFx daily would not make the results better. As such, I would still recommend you to use it as per the protocol which is 3 times a week for 4 weeks. It does make the skin slightly dehydrated and applying moisturisers after treatments are advisable. In fact, FaceFX helps to increase serum and chemical absorption and it really plumps up the skin when you use a moisturiser after a FaceFX treatment. I guess for this part about the oily stuff, you'll have to look through all your products. If a product gives you bumps after using, then stop using it as it is too rich for you.

Simply Beauty: Initially when I started using this tool, I thought I could see my skin looking more refined and firmer every day. But after a stopped for a few days before starting again, the improvements are not as obvious as before. Why is it so? (usage time is same as before)
Clariancy: This is really like going to a gym. If you want to train your muscles to get a better bicep definition, you need to hit the gym a few times a week. Once you have reached your goal of having well defined muscles (6 abs or so), you still need to do regular visits to maintain the figure/definition. If you stop, the muscles lose the definition and revert back to fat cells. Your Collagen is like your Muscles. You need to give it regular stimulation so that you can have enough collagen and this helps to tighten and firm your skin. You should see good results 4 weeks after a course of sessions but you should also perform maintenance sessions. Perhaps, no need to do 3 times a week but just once a week should be good enough.

If you skip the sessions, you need a bit more time to see the results again. Also, like going to a gym, you can't just lift 5kgs each time. You need to lift 5kgs, 10kgs later and 20kgs even later. If you find the results with Silk 'N FaceFx is diminishing, you can use it longer or even twice a day.

Simply Beauty: Can I use alcohol swaps to clean the contact point without damaging it? The brochure mentions cleaning with a piece of cloth after every use. I wonder if I clean with alcohol swap it would be more hygienic?
Clariancy: Yes. It is fine to use alcohol swabs to clean the head of FaceFX, but I would use a lightly moist cloth to double clean after using the alcohol swab. It should be alcohol swab, moist cloth and then dry with another cloth. Alcohol is flammable. While the heat of FaceFX would not cause a fire when in contact with alcohol, we rather err on the side of caution and use a moist cloth to wipe of the alcohol.

Silk 'N FaceFx retails at $480. Available at all Clariancy (Private Limited) outlets.

VERDICT: Being able to achieve skin rejuvenation results with a home DIY gadget is great news. I’ve been wondering about the chances of achieving firmer skin with a home gadget at a lower cost as compared to anti-ageing facial packages, which I realised my therapist does not always give me for every visit. At least with this gadget I can manage my expectations better.

REVIEW How I Got Back Healthier Hair

Pantene Colour & Perm Lasting Care REVIEW

Pantene Colour & Perm Lasting Care

REVIEW: Prolonging Beautiful Curls and Hair Colour with Pantene
After numerous perms and home colouring, I found that my hair has become very dry and every DIY home colouring did not seem to last about three months. I switched from an oily scalp shampoo to a hydrating formulation thinking that would solve the problem. However, I realised that hair fall during shampoos increase with the hydrating shampoo and the dryness and extreme frizziness did not improve much.

Pantene Colour & Perm Lasting Care
Then, this new shampoo range by Pantene was launched. It promises to restore health to dry damaged hair―Pantene Colour & Perm Lasting Care. After the first use, there seems to be fewer kinks at hair ends. After a few weeks of use, the extreme frizziness improved. In particular, I find that my hair is less dry after using Pantene Colour & Perm Lasting Care Conditioner and Pantene Colour & Perm Lasting Care 6-Week Colour Protect Treatment Program.

REVIEW: Pantene Colour & Perm Lasting Care Conditioner
I could feel my hair soften while massaging the conditioner onto my hair length, although it did not remain as soft after rinsing, but hair is detangled and less dry after rinsing off the Conditioner.

REVIEW: 6-Week Colour Protect Treatment Program
I see obvious improvement in my curl definition each time right after rinsing off the 6-Week Colour Protect Treatment Program. I thought I made a mistake so I made a conscious effort to check at the next treatment a week later. And yes curls are always more defined next two days post Pantene 6-Week Colour Protect Treatment Program.

Regarding hair colour, I find that after I started using this hair care range, salon colour remains rich even after it has lightened from a very deep brown to a lighter hue two months after the salon colour was done and two months into using this range. New greys start to appear about one and a half months post salon colour as usual.

VERDICT: I would use Pantene Colour & Perm Lasting Care range again after my next chemical treatment as my hair became less dry after using this range. It was also able to revive my tired 1 year old digital perm at least for 2 days after using the treatments. Note that i use this range for two months and I continue to use my usual leave-in serums and nourishing hair cream after towel drying my hair throughout the product trial.

Why is Pantene Colour & Perm Lasting Care range good for your chemically treated hair?
Pantene Liquid Crystal Shampoo System helps to redefine the benchmark for lasting colour and curls, through a research involving 19 external dermatologists and internal scientific hair experts. Findings from this research remind women that each chemical treatment that we put our hair through damages hair. When hair is damaged, any curls or colour will not last, compared to healthy hair with curls and colour, that is.
Damaged coloured and permed hair loses its natural ‘lipid’ layer (F layer), a natural protective layer for hair fibres. This means chemically treated hair is naturally more vulnerable to external aggressors, and thus less able to retain lasting colour and curls. How does Pantene’s new range help retain these curls and colours? The Liquid Crystals in the Liquid Crystal Shampoo System form a thin film around the hair fibre, acting as a pseudo F-layer, which increases Silicone Deposition Efficiency. Together with Pantene’s signature Pro-V formula, Liquid Crystal Shampoo System repairs and protects the durability of coloured and permed hair, leaving you with longer lasting hair colour or perm.

As you’ve seen from results of my trial, the highlight of Pantene’s Colour & Perm Lasting Care is 6-Week Colour Protect Treatment Program, a six-week colour protection treatment program that enables hair retain colour and perm for up to six weeks. It nourishes hair, coats hair to reduce loss of colour pigments and perm bonds within each hair strand.  The result? Longer lasting hair colour and disulphate bonds that better keep the shape of curls after each shampoo. This means you’ll have at least six weeks of multi-dimensional hair colour and lustrous curls, while keeping hair healthier than before.
Prices for Pantene’s Colour & Perm Lasting Care start from $4.70 each for shampoo and conditioner. Daily Intensive Conditioner, $8.95 and 6-Week Colour Protect Treatment Program, $8.95 per tube. Available at all leading supermarkets and pharmacies.
